Kundendialog, September 1, 2011 -- Carrier recognized as a world leader in social responsibility - Lufthansa's annual Balance report demonstrates its leadership role in environmental responsibility and corporate citizenship.
Lufthansa has received top honors among airlines in the 2011 Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Awards for the airline's company-wide commitment to environmental and sustainability-related initiatives. The comprehensive awards program requires applicants to meet exacting standards in the areas of preservation, wildlife conservation, health initiatives, poverty relief and education programs. A team of judges that included academics, CEOs, philanthropists and Condé Nast Traveler editors examined submissions, awarding the “Doing it All” distinction to companies with the highest overall scores within their specific travel category.
The 2011 World Savers Awards are featured in the September issue of Condé Nast Traveler, which hits newsstands today.
In its announcement, Condé Nast Traveler showcased the airline's leadership position in the area of fuel-efficiency, spotlighting Lufthansa's recent launch of the world's first long-term, commercial biofuel trial. The magazine also recognized Lufthansa's effort to further reduce carbon emissions through an investment in fleet modernization, and the use of lighter seats, ovens and trolleys; the airline's support of education and health projects in communities throughout the world; as well as its successful employee-run humanitarian initiative, HelpAlliance, which funds more than 60 projects in Lufthansa destinations around the globe.
“Environmental responsibility has been an integral part of Lufthansa's corporate culture for decades,” explains Juergen Siebenrock, Vice President, The Americas at Lufthansa. “From the sparing use of resources to participation in climate research to the ongoing improvement of air and ground efficiencies, the entire Lufthansa family strives to limit the environmental effects of flying, making this an award our team can be proud of throughout the company.”
Since 1994, Lufthansa has offered a comprehensive look at the company's environmental and sustainability practices through the publication of Balance. This annual Sustainability Report presents the company's various activities, advances and goals in the areas of social responsibility, climate and environmental responsibility, and corporate citizenship.
