This aircraft named“Eco Flight,”received is the first ever domestic aircraft to receive the Carbon Labeling official certification for the airline transportation service sector from the Ministry of Environment. This carbon reducing activity was applied by sections by sector but this aircraft was fully activated in reducing carbon and was conducted a test flight.

The procedure Eco Flight underwent was cleansing the engine before flight; loading the optimum amount of fuel; balancing weight; improving flight procedures to reduce carbon. By performing these steps, a total of 500kg of carbon was reduced. With the same procedure yearly performed on this route, a total of 800ton of carbon reduction can be made.

Also the green house gasses that are developed through this flight, Asiana has donated carbon offset funds to the Korea Energy Management Corporation. By performing this act, Asiana was able to reduce the whole amount of carbon offset for the flight.

President and CEO of Asiana Airlines Yoon Young-doo was present during today’s event thanked the passengers and staff of Asiana Airlines and handed out “Eco Flight Participation Certificates” at Gimpo International Airport. President Yoon also promoted the importance in reducing carbon and also actively participated in spreading the information.

President Yoon commented “With the test operation of the Eco Flight, we have become a leading role model and abide our social responsibilities. We can prevent climate change and enforce green growth. It has been a great opportunity to show the corporate social responsibilities. By this opportunity, we will adopt environmental friendly factors to all business sectors by changing systems, business reforms.”

On the one hand, Asiana in 2008 offset 3 million tons and 4 million tons in 2009 of carbon by these activities. Asiana was awarded the first prize at the 『2009 Korea Green Growth and Climate Change Award』and has formed an image of being a leading company friendly to the environment.
