Birmingham Airport Invests in Solar Power
BIRMINGHAM, UK, February 6, 2012 -- Birmingham Airport will save 22 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year with the installation of 200 solar panels on the roof of its terminal. The 1.6m x 1m panels will generate 40,000 kWh a year; sufficient to power 12 average sized houses.

New arrival management message implemented

This is an innovative milestone for the further development of the air traffic management system in the FABEC airspace.

German ANSP DFS Announces Capacity Gains with New ATS System
KARLSRUHE, January 31, 2012 -- In December 2010, DFS introduced its new air traffic services (ATS) system P1/VAFORIT at the upper area control centre (UAC) in Karlsruhe. The new system has made it possible for the capacity of the airspace to increase by 11 percent. DFS expects further increases in capacity of five to seven percent annually.

BRUSSELS, January 31, 2012 -- Following the inclusion of the airline industry into the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme as of 1 January 2012, ACI EUROPE today released an update on its flagship climate change initiative, Airport Carbon Accreditation, detailing the progress made by airports in lowering their own CO2 emissions. As of today, some 55 airports in Europe welcoming 52% of European passenger traffic each year are now Airport Carbon Accredited at one of the 4 available levels of certification (‘Mapping’, ‘Reduction’, ‘Optimisation’ and ‘Neutrality’).

Lufthansa achieves record punctuality at Frankfurt Saving Emissions
FRANKFURT, January 30, 2012 -- Highest-ever punctuality rates and significantly reduced CO2 emissions since the opening of the new Northwest Runway. Three months after the new runway at Frankfurt Airport became operational, Lufthansa has drawn up an interim assessment. Since 21 October 2011, the on-time arrival performance rating has risen by more than 14 cent compared with the same period in the previous year, and remains constant at well above 80 per cent.
